1--Understanding Partslink 'PTypes'
All Partslink numbers use the following 'naming convention':
- The 1st and 2nd characters of all Partslink numbers are a 'text' value that identifies the 'manufacturer' of the part. For instance FO for Ford, HO for Honda, GM for General Motors, CH for Chrysler, etc
- The 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th characters of all Partslink numbers are 'numeric' numbers that identify the 'part type' (also known as a PTYPE).
The following are the TOP 20 most popular selling PTYPES: - 1000 = Front Bumper Cover
- 2502 = Left Front Headlamp
- 2503 = Right Front Headlamp
- 1200 = Grille
- 1230 = Hood
- 1240 = Left Front Fender
- 1241 = Right Front Fender
- 1100 = Rear Bumper Cover
- 1320 = Left Mirror
- 1321 = Right Mirror
- 3010 = Radiator
- 1225 = Radiator Support
- 1006 = Front Bumper Reinforcement
- 3030 = A/C Condenser
- 2800 = Left Taillamp
- 2801 = Right Taillamp
2--How to Define Your Parts Catalog 'Default Values' Using the PTypes We Sell Screen.
- Open the OneSource Partslink Wizard (OSPLWiz), (which is usually stored on your server here: C:\Partslink\OSPLWiz.mdb)
- Click on the Functions button on the first page and then click option 1 and then click Go. (NOTE: If your copy of the wizard does not have this button please click Next 3 times and press the PTypes We Sell button, OR contact OneSource to obtain a newer version of the Wizard).
- On the PTypes We Sell screen (Table) you can define the following 'default' values for all the parts you import into OneSource using the wizard--depending on the PType:
- Part Name (PNAME): This is PNAME given to that type of part in the ABPA catalog.
- Sell (Y/N): This determines if that type of part will be imported into OneSource or not. (If you type Y (meaning Yes) that type of part will be imported into OneSource. If you type N (meaning No) that type of part will not be imported into OneSource).
- Inventory Category: Here you can define, per part type, the Category that will be assigned for that type of part. (This ends up being the category that users will use to filter down your list of parts on the Quick Price Check (QPC) screen).
- Inventory Sub-Category: Here you can define, per part type, the Sub-Category that will be assigned for that type of part. (This ends up being the sub-category that users will use to further filter down your list of parts on the Quick Price Check (QPC) screen).
- Note: You can auto fill this field with the Part Name by clicking the arrow button on the left side of the Inventory Sub-Category field.
- Product Pricing Group: You can set up 'Product Pricing Groups' (to simplify and refine item pricing on the QPC and other screens). If desired, you can select a particular Product Pricing Group for each PType.
- QPC Sort Order: In OneSource, on the Inventory Management screen, there is a field called QPC Sort Order. This determines the 'order' that each type of part will be displayed on the QPC screen. You can enter whatever # you would like in this field.
- Note: You can click on the button called "Copy PTypes to Sort Order field to auto fill these values with the PType number. The PType number 'generally' numbers items from front of car to back of car order, but several exception do exist. (For instance, 1000 if a front bumper cover and 1100 is a rear bumper cover). If you would like to have the parts sort in a more logical order (assuming you already have the PType as the QPC Sort Order) you may want to add an additional 'sorting' number in front each of the 4 digit QPC Sort Order numbers, such as:
- 1 - For all Front Bumpers and Front Bumper Components). Examples: 1000 would become 11000, and 1100 would become 11100.
- 2 - For all more Grilles and Grille Components.
- 3 - For all Head Lamps and Head Lamp Components.
- 4 - For all Cooling parts.
- 5 - For all Fenders.
- 6 - For all other parts (in the 'middle' section of the vehicle).
- 7 - For all Rear Lamps.
- 8 - For all Rear Bumpers and Rear Bumper Components.
- PO Category: If you make use of the Auto PO #3 tool in OneSource (to simplify the overall creation of Container PO's) you may want to only order certain types of parts from certain vendors, such as Cooling, or Lamps/Mirrors, or Sheet Metal, etc. You can define the default PO Category, per PType.
- Dis. Off OE List: If you would like to have the wizard auto calculate your item List Price by making it a certain percentage of the OEM List price you can define that percentage, per PType.
- Num Sales For 1 Yr: This column shows the total # of unit sales for each PType (on Invoices in OneSource) you had in over the last 365 days.
- In Stock For PType: This column shows the total # of units you currently have in stock, per PType.
